I Am Amikwa: Why Should I Care?
You, as an individual are unique. Out of the 7.888 billion people on this earth, there is only one you. The truth is, no matter where you are, what you have done, or who you are with, the true beauty of YOU shines through, not in sameness, but in all of the ways you are different.
Your people, the Amikwa Nipissing, are also unique. It may not be so obvious today, but we as the Amikwa, one of the founding peoples of this continent, have evolved over tens of thousands of years to be one-of-a kind, not only genetically, but also culturally. And we have every right to protect our uniqueness, just as our warrior forefathers did.
On December 10th, 1948, our fundamental right to for our nationality was cemented into law. That's the day Canada and most of the other countries on this globe agreed
Article 15 of that document states that "Everyone has the right to a nationality, and no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.
